ABC television news reports that an estimated 69 million people in the U.S. believe that the flu vaccine can give them the flu. Interestingly, many of the "man-in-the-street" interviewees who said they believed this, and had not got the shot, were younger folks who appeared to be in their 20s and 30s.
Can there be any better indication of how badly our education in basic science has failed our younger generations? Or could it be that what people learn from the College of Twitter tends to trump real fact? Either way, the failure/refusal of so many to get the flu shot endangers the general population. This is how epidemics happen.
