On this blog, among other things, I want to share my occasional observations about products I have used - their design, their function, their price, the truth of their advertising, whatever. Often, those will be negative comments. A product that doesn't perform its stated function, manufacturers that increase their prices by changing the package size and hoping we won't notice, and the like -- such things drive me crazy.
But I also want to focus equal attention on the positive -- those companies that provide top-quality goods, or fine customer service that you can rely on. So let me begin today with one of the "good guys."
Cutco. Do you know the name? The company makes a whole range of kitchen knives (and a few other products) right here in the U.S. Many of us (or our wives or mothers) acquired a set somewhere in our late teens or early 20s from a salesman who showed up to demonstrate them. My wife swears by hers, and has added to her collection from time to time. My neighbor, we found recently, is equally devoted to hers.
Cutco's knives are not just useful and well-made, but they are guaranteed for life and will be repaired or replaced except in cases of obvious abuse. It's not an empty promise - we've done it ourselves!
The one drawback is the way they're sold: Only through sales representatives, or nowadays orders are also taken in the Cutco booth at consumer-product shows (like the home and garden show we attended a couple of years ago). So, unless you already own some Cutco products, you can't just go to the Cutco website and order them there. The website does, however, provide a place to look up a representative in your area. We and other satisfied customers who've had their knives for decades will tell you it's probably worth it.
Your sister loves them too!
