Occasionally, a gaggle of politicians (pun intended) or a media mogul or two make an attempt to convert the populace to "Michiganian." Some pick up on that, and we see it supplanting Michigander here and there. Michiganian doesn't seem to have the ring of quality to it much more than does the goosier term. Michiganite, to me, reflects a certain sophistication. However, no one seems to be pushing for it. The state is not all that sophisticated. Perhaps that's why.
