Well, when I was in grade school, it really was the pictures I most enjoyed (rather like the cartoons in The New Yorker). But only until my reading improved to NG level. Then, for years, the magazine was a beautiful, complete package. That you had reached the point of discarding issues unread says a lot.

Indeed. It was mostly a factor of time, yet when I did put them in the recycle bin, I never felt that I'd be missing much by doing so.

The maps, as you mentioned, were another important feature for me. I wonder if NGS will continue to publish their excellent atlas...
